NIMMSA Conservation Fund Project

This project launches an eDNA sampling program to identify beach-spawning forage fish habitat along the north coast of Vancouver Island — a region where distributions of Pacific sand lance and surf smelt remain poorly understood. Working with Kwakiutl First Nation and Nanwakolas Council, the data will lay the groundwork for a habitat suitability model to inform marine planning and shoreline protection.
